TPM Foundation Launches Infrastructure Support Program for Shurugwi Schools

Schools in Shurugwi South are set to benefit through the rehabilitation of infrastructure under a project by the TPM Foundation.
The selected schools are Jongwe Primary, Gamwa Primary and Secondary, Tokwe and Dhlodhlo Primary.

New Gato, Old Gato and Banga Primary Schools complete the list of beneficiaries.
TPM Foundation Administrator Chipo Musukutwa said the program focuses on enhancing and rehabilitating the institutions.
“The schools first submitted letters with areas of concern and after our assessment program we shall then prioritise projects to begin with.

“We shall be assessing from a list of needs and focusing on those which are most urgent.
Gamwa Primary Headmistress Delight Chuma said they were looking forward to getting a borehole as they have water challenges.
“We have a water challenge that is serious and we thank TPM Foundation for coming through.
“Previously we had a borehole which has since dried up.
“Three other boreholes which were drilled had empty hopes, now we depend on unsafe open wells (mifuku) on the Tokwe river,” she said.

Tokwe Primary Headmaster Mr Maronga also hailed the intervention by the Foundation as he laid out a host of challenges they face.
“Out biggest setback is the poor enrollment.
“We have around 100 students and from that pool not much money can be raised to find development programs at the school.
“So we face various challenges such as poor furniture, no electricity, derelict roofs, absence of ICT equipment and many others.
We have tried to run projects but it’s very difficult
“The coming in of TPM Foundation is appreciated very much and we expect to improve our school with their assistance,” he said.
Officials from the Foundation complete the assessment of schools this week with roll-out of work expected soon after.
